It didn’t take long for a selection of Czech university hockey players to go overseas again. This time it will head to Canada, where the legendary Viking Cup returns after almost twenty years. The tournament will take place from December 28, 2025 to January 3, 2026 in the Canadian city of Camrose, and the Czech team will go to it on December 26. The return home is scheduled for January 5, 2026.

The Viking Cup is one of the iconic tournaments that in the past brought the best young hockey players from all over the world to one place. It was here that NHL scouts had the opportunity to watch future stars in action. Now the tournament is returning thanks to the Augustana Vikings Hockey Alumni Association and will offer five teams from the Czech Republic, Canada and the USA. In addition to the Czech University Selects, the SAIT Trojans, SJHL U20 All-Stars, Midland University Warriors and the home Augustana Vikings will be presented.

In the regular season, all teams will face each other in twelve games, after which it will be time to fight for medals. The bronze match is scheduled for January 3 at noon, the final will be played at 6 p.m. local time.

The selection of the Czech University Selects will be led by head coach David Oulík, who, together with the implementation team, has selected 25 players from 12 university teams. The most representatives are held by Charles University Kings Prague and UWB Akademici Plzeň. Among the nominees are the most productive player of the past playoffs, Samuel Neo Kucharčík, and the newcomer to ULLH, but experienced goalie Martin Altrichter.

The Czech University Selects thus follow up on the US College Tour in October, where they faced universities from the NCAA. The Viking Cup will be another great challenge and opportunity to show the quality of Czech university hockey on the international scene and to take the whole project one step further
